What is Dye Sublimation?
Dye Sublimation uses patented inks and a transfer process that uses time, temperature, and pressure to permanently dye the surface of polyester cloth, polymer or acrylic surfaces. Digital Dye Sublimation uses graphic design software and your scanned images and artwork to print your custom banner or image to special ink jet paper. The heat press then transfers the image to cloth or hard substrate. This results in a vivid, tattoo-like transfer that is eye-popping.
Dye Sublimation cloth banners have a wonderful look and feel that make a statement about the quality of your company and the value of your event.
Limitations
Sublimation inks transfer well to light colored, synthetic surfaces such as polyester and acrylic. They do not transfer to natural surfaces such as cotton, or dark colored surfaces. Over long periods of time, Sublimation inks have limited color-fastness when exposed to direct sunlight.
There are 3 main steps in this process
· Digital creation of image
· Image printed on special transfer paper
· Transfer paper heated to 400°F resulting in the "transfer" of ink to permanent material
Permanent transfer materials range from cloth to reinforced plastic to glass. Extreme heat during the transfer process causes the inks to go from their solid state directly to a gas. As a gas, the ink travels deep into the transfer material resulting in bold, colorful images. The end product delivers a powerful punch - a true photographic image!
